Campus wide, COVID-19

Hunter Center closed until Monday, March 30

By ҹ첥 Media | March 24, 2020

In an email sent to the campus community this evening, President Dondi Costin announced that the Hunter Center will close through the remainder of the week due to an employee’s potential exposure to COVID-19 off campus. Costin said:

ҹ첥 family,

This timely warning is being sent to alert our community because we learned this afternoon that a ҹ첥 employee who works in the Hunter Center has been in contact with an individual (not a ҹ첥 employee) who has now tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This is the first, and only, report of potential contact within the ҹ첥 family. Based on the contact profile, the individual and the individual’s physician have suggested that it is unlikely the ҹ첥 employee contracted the virus, but the individual was tested today out of an abundance of caution. As required by the South Carolina Department of Public Health, follow-up notification will be sent once the individual’s test results are known.

All those who work in the Hunter Center have been sent home for the remainder of the week and alerted to monitor themselves for symptoms. Regardless of the individual’s test results, please know that the CDC does not define simply being in the same office with someone who tests positive as “close contact.” For the past two weeks we have been escalating our cleaning procedures and the frequency of our cleaning practices. Be assured that our housekeeping staff members are thoroughly cleaning the relevant spaces in accordance with public health guidelines. For these reasons, the Hunter Center is closed for the rest of the week.

It is important that you continue to practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently and avoid travel. Take good care of your loved ones as well, especially those who are older or have chronic health conditions.  Maintain a distance of six feet from others and avoid any gatherings of more than three people. Please continue to visit  and follow ҹ첥’s official social media channels to keep informed of the latest information and resources. For further information, visit ǰ. Your health, safety and success are the guiding principles in every decision made by ҹ첥. As you feel led, please pray for the individual who may have been exposed and for our ҹ첥 family and we strive to be a light in these difficult times.
